Episode Description

Megan Riggs built Crunchy, a functional sparkling water, from a Virginia Beach farmers market to shelves at Whole Foods, Kroger, and Wegmans with a small team and in-house production. In this episode of Know Thy Shelf, she gets specific about the lesson most founders learn the hard way: distribution is not execution. A signed purchase order gets your product into a warehouse. It does not get it onto the shelf, facing forward, at the right price, in the right store. Megan breaks down what a distributor will and won't do once the paperwork is signed, and what still falls squarely on the brand.

“Take your time. Go slow. Gather data. Have your loyal consumers.”
About the Guest
Megan Riggs
Founder & CEO

Megan Riggs is the founder and CEO of Crunchy Hydration, a women-owned sparkling wellness water made with adaptogens, nootropics, and zero sugar. After graduating from UVA and running West Coast operations in Los Angeles for a global training company, Megan hit a wall of burnout, sold everything she owned, and bought a one-way ticket to Thailand. A year of simple living and a daily juice-shop ritual there became the blueprint for the brand.

She returned to Virginia Beach and launched Crunchy in 2019, surviving pandemic shutdowns and an aluminum can shortage in her first year with a small team and in-house production. Today Crunchy is carried in more than 650 stores including Whole Foods, Kroger, Wegmans, Thrive Market, and every World Market location nationwide.
